How to Use OBDII Scanner with Nissan Tiida or Versa

More than three years ago, I purchased a Bluetooth ELM327 OBD2 Auto Car Diagnostic Scan Tool.

Since that time, I have been trying to make it work on my Nissan Tiida (Versa) using all the software utilities I can find on Android market with bad luck. I have also tested it on Nissan Qashqai, but still did not work. It worth mentioning that I have tested the tools on may models of other car makers, and it worked flawlessly. After some research I found out that Nissan have made some protection on the used protocol so Engine Control Unit can only be interfaced to ConsultIII systems used at Nissan service centers.

Recently, with the introduction on new OBDII software tools, I have installed many of them, but still with bad luck, so I made a new deeper research and found that some people used the following a tool called "Car Gauge Pro" and it works fine when setting the protocol to "14230-4 (Fast Init)". So, I tried this set up and finally got it working.

Note: Both the OBDII scanner and the software have to support "14230-4 (Fast Init)" protocol

Steps:

I. Download and install "Car Gauge Pro" from Google play store

II. Plugin your OBDII scanner into car OBD port.

III. Get your phone paired with OBDII scanner through bluetooth.

IV. Start "Car Gauge Pro" and do the following:

  1. Click "Preference"
  2. Click "Adaptor Protocol"

  3. Select "14230-4 (Fast Init)" protocol
  4. Click Connect icon
  5. Select car make "Nissan"
  6. Select car module type "ECM (Gasoline)
  7. You get notified with "Available ECU (Address)", Click phone "Back" button
  8. Click on "Graphing" icon

  9. Now you can get a graph of all available sensors (play with that)
  10. Click "Menu" icon
  11. Click "OBD Menu"
  12. Click "Diagnostic Trouble Codes"
  13. Check the error codes stored in the ECU, for me, I got "P2138 - Powertrain" error, which means there is a problem with the Accelerator Pedal or the Throttle
